SRX Stage Ball PLAY

The SRX, or Soft Russian, is an iconic ball produced by PLAY since 2005 and the first soft Russian-style ball ever made. It keeps all the essential features of this category—dead drops, easy foot and body catches, and lightweight feel—while adding a uniquely soft shell that offers exceptional handling.

The shell is made of fully phthalate-free flexible PVC, extremely elastic, resistant and easy to clean. However, because PVC can stain permanently when in contact with inks from newspapers, magazines, or pens, the balls should be stored separately when not in use.

SRX balls use PLAY’s soft shells, approximately 2 mm thick. Like beanbags, they offer great control during collisions in the air and roll much less on the floor, making them extremely versatile for both toss juggling and body/contact work. The different diameters feature adapted surface finishes: matte soft-touch on the 67 mm for reduced stickiness and better multiplex throws, and glossy ultra-grip finish on the 78 mm version for a shiny stage look and excellent grip.

The filling consists of either ultra-fine quartz sand or millet seeds. Sand offers the typical strong Russian-ball behaviour, with highly concentrated weight, while millet provides a softer, more versatile feel that makes body rolls and contact moves easier. The filling level, generally between one third and one half, is precisely measured with high-accuracy digital equipment. Each ball includes a removable plug that allows you to adjust the weight or let air in—useful after air travel when pressure changes may slightly deform the shell.

The SRX is therefore a very stable, pleasant-to-handle and versatile ball, highly appreciated for its unique softness and precision in both toss juggling and contact.
